I just returned
from my trip to Fez and wanted to write you and thank you for recommending Dar
Houdou. As a traveller, I encounter a lot of different kinds of hotels,
guesthouses, lodging, etc. My experience at Dar Houdou was truly different than
all the rest; it really made my trip to Morocco better than I expected.
When I first arrived, I was made right at home by the owner, Steve. Because of
Steve's warm personality and actual interest in his guests' experience, I really
did feel at home there. I travelled alone to Morocco, expecting to take random
tours alone around the city and hope to meet just a few people along the way.
Well, it ended up being much more than that - at the end, I think I made new
friends, with whom I will definitely stay in contact. Every morning, Steve and
his help prepared a nice breakfast for us, and he even asked what kind of food
we might want to try. He came out to eat with us, and showed us different
restaurants in the city. I talked for hours with Steve and the other guests,
enjoyed tea, went out on tours all over Northern morocco with them, and explored
the city. His help is amazing - Muhammed, his manager knows all kinds of
educated, reliable people. He set up tours for us with people who knew very
interesting details about the city, wherever we wanted to go, or whatever we
wanted to see. Even his taxi drivers were friendly and always available! My room
was always clean, my laundry was even done and nicely put away for me by Sitira,
his cleaning lady! It was just a wonderful, wonderful experience; I didn't want
to leave.
This is not to mention the fact that the Dar Houdou is beautifully kept and
renovated. It is clean, traditional, and has such a special feel to it. My room
was on the top floor, with two beautiful terraces. I got the impression that
Steve really puts his heart into these renovations, and the results are all over
the guesthouse.
I will definitely be returning to Fez with my girlfriend and will always stay at
Dar Houdou, not only to experience the city of Fez, but also so that she can see
the Dar Houdou and meet my friends there. I wish him the very best of luck, and
thanks again for recommending the guesthouse.
Sincerely,
Jared J. Albright
