DAR SEFFARINE                       600-year-old palace

This superb house has been lovingly restored by its owners, an Iraqi architect and his Norwegian wife.  The rooms are comfortably furnished.  As this house is deep in the Medina next to the Place Seffarine where the coppersmiths work their trays and basins, staying here means the guest really experiences medina life.  And yet it's only five minutes to Bab R'cif with its bustling market, banks, restaurants, parking and taxis.    The house has splendid carved and painted wood as well as magnificent carved plaster, and floors are of marble and traditional zellij (mosaic tiles).

  • two suites and four double/twin-bedded rooms open onto the central courtyard
  • air-conditioning in rooms except on the ground floor
  • experience life deep in the Medina
  • close to security parking and taxis at Bab R'cif
  • one of the best terrace views in the whole of Fez

COST:  from 70 Euros per room per night including breakfast.   No credit card facilities.

Comments from Guests:
We arrived in Fes horribly ill and ready to go home. Morocco had been a major disappointment. We were warmly greeted by Alaa and Kate, our hosts, and their wonderful staff. Dar Seffarine is an absolute palace, I cannot begin to describe the intricate wood carvings in the 18 foot doors or the elaborate zelij tiled floors. Each room is unique and HUGE. I immediately asked to stay an extra nite. There is no better value in all of Morocco!

The staff attended to all our needs with a smile. The breakfasts are a tasty spread of breads, eggs, fresh squeezed juices and Moroccan specialties. On Friday nite we were treated to a homemade vegetable couscous that was our best meal in all of two weeks in Morocco! Kate even lent us her kitchen and my husband cooked dinner for 17 guests and boy did we have a great time!

A lazy afternoon spent on the roof top terrace was the perfect way for us to regain our strength. Having spent my entire life working in the Hotel industry I can highly recommend the Dar Seffarine for anyone contemplating a trip to Fes.
