'Visitors to Fez often
talk about that magical moment when the medina suddenly becomes fabulous
rather than foreign, relevatory rather than overwhelming', writes
co-author Virginia Maxwell.
This pocket-size book contains a pull-out map of the medina, Fez el-Jdid and the Ville Nouvelle that's a perfect size. There are also maps of each of the neighbourhoods: the medina, the Andalous quarter, Fez el-Jdid and the Ville Nouvelle. Where to eat, drink, shop, sight-see and play are included, as well as snapshots on accommodation, artisans, Sufism, music and Heritage Fez. Excursions to Meknes, Volubilis and Moulay Idriss feature too. Owner of this site, Helen Ranger, is the other co-author of the book. While she didn't write the accommodation section for obvious reasons, being a resident means that the book is packed with local information to make the most of a short break in Fez. Available in bookstores from the end of March 2008, or from www.lonelyplanet.com. |
